Mazda6 2.5 Road Tests

Hey All; I went quiet for a while as I went back to Penang with my new M6 2.5 White baby!.
I am sure some of you eagerly wanting to know my experience with the car and please find some of my comments base on my personal experience :-

Positives :

1. Engine is extremely quiet although when you are cruising at a very high speed.
2. Handling – Really no need to say anything more la here, just no words to describe how wonderful it handles the corners. Driving through the bends in Ipoh on the Plus highway is just more fun now. Sometimes I think the car has more guts than the driver J…on the other hand, I am very impress with how comfortable the suspensions were. My passengers didn’t even realize I was cruising at 200kmh.
3. The transmission is very smooth, quick when you need them to. Doesn’t jerk at all.
4. Auto Cruise – Something I over impress with, this is the most responsive auto cruise in a car that I’ve experienced. You set your desired speed, you hit the brakes and it get disconnected, but the moment you hit on Resume, it uses all the power and sometimes even shift a few gears down get you the speed in just a few seconds and drives like it did nothing at all, just amazing!
5. Steering Wheel – Very soft and light, it gets a little heavier on a high speed just so that you feel more controlled on a high speed.
6. The most interesting bit and most people waiting to listen to is the Power of the car. The 2.5 M6 drives very gently and is not wild, the moment you step on your accelerator it does not throw your body tight on your seat like some sport cars does….but…you will be so damn surprise how quickly and powerful the car is , I hit 200kmh very easily and it doesn’t struggle at all. You just ask for more power, it will generously grant your request. And you will find a lot of other cars equivalent engine capacity struggle to catch (I am damn lucky to have the new H 2.4 car driver being sporting enough to chase me and let me chase him. He just have to admit there is a lot of hidden talent in the new M6 (although in my heart it wasn’t a surprise J )
7. Turning Radius – With such a big car, I think the M6 takes any U-Turn easily (felt like driving a small car).
8. Light – No problems at all driving at night without the streetlight, your M6 bi Xenon shines even the lanes on your left and right. I think to a small extend it does annoys some drivers if you are few hundreds meters behind them.
9. Brakes – Its powerful enuff to make you feel safe on a high speed.
10. Fuel Consumption RM105 (55 Liters):-
a. City Driving – takes you up to 550KM
b. Highway Driving – Min Speed 160kmh , Max Speed 200kmh – 550KM
c. Highway Driving – Average Speed 110 – 120kmh – 590KM

Things that can be improved :-
1. The wind noise is something that I expected to be lower. Although it is no longer noticeable by just turning on your car audio system to a decent volume level.
2. Something that I don’t really like is the way it handles holes and extremely uneven surface, but then you really cant complain becoz that’s how every low profile tyre works.
3. Brake Dust – There’s a lot of brake dust that it produces, you just need to take a decent drive to the town and back and you can notice the brake dust over shining the beauty of your 18inch rims L
That’s all I guess that I can think off…In Summary, no one would regret buying this powerful yet pretty machine J…Its like dating a sexy lady in a short mini skirt and knowing that she can lift few hundred pounds of weight ..hehhehe

Thanks for your great review. I was really surprise with the mileage figures you mentioned. 550km for city driving? That is very good for a 2.5L car. My Civic 1.8 only achieves 420km for city driving with a 50litre tank. I was thinking of upgrading my civic to M6 but was concerned with the fuel consumption during this new petrol increase. Anyone else can verfiy on M6′s fuel consumption?

  • By Izaruddin on Jun 9, 2008

    Comparison :-
    Mazda5 vs Wish vs Stream
    Mazda3 vs Altis vs Civic
    Mazda6 vs Accord vs Camry

U will be surprised on how well is Mazda when it comes to “Fuel Consumption”. Thats why u can see many of our neighbors (Singapore, Taiwan, Australia and etc) drive Mazda compared to the comparison above. And u can see more in US, Europe and such in which the fuel price there is far more expensive than ours :)

Here is good comparison between Mazda3, Civic and Corolla (Altis)

Will update here on the Mazda6 2.0L fuel consumption from 2 of my clients whom already took the car for a week. Stay tune . . .

    Thanks Iza.

Shaz in your review, you measure fuel consumption based on 55litres. However the M6 fuel tank capacity is stated as 64litres. Hope you clarify further on your FC calculation. Any owners of M6 2.5 please share your experience on the FC.

I just test drove the 2.5L today and yes it definitely feels more powerful than the Camry and Accord since I have tried all 3!

    Roy;

It is true that the M6 tank can take up to 64 liters of fuel. But most vehicle will have 10 liters of fuel for emergency purpose. So when your orange fuel indicator lamp appears, and your fuel gauge is exactly at the lowest E, it will flow in approx. 55 liters of fuel.

  • By Roy on Jun 16, 2008

Yes that’s true. Thanks for the clarifications. So 55 litres can take you 550km. That’s really good numbers for a 2.5 car.

  • By Shaz1000 on Jun 16, 2008

Yeap, provided you dont drive crazily la, decent dirivng and looking at the live data which tells you your liter\100km consumption that can be use to guide you towards a proper driving manner. That doesnt mean you have to drive slow to get a good mileage.
